Jigoku-mushi Pudding (Pudding cooked in hot spring steam)

Okamotoya's hidden longtime bestseller is our "Jigoku-mushi Pudding." The harmony between the way it melts at the touch of your tongue and the bitter caramel is absolutely exquisite. What is more, the restrained sweetness makes this pudding popular even among those who do not like sweets. The secret to this mild flavor lies in the sulfur-rich high temperature hot springs vapor. We steam the ingredients with great care. As we rely on the natural steam we cannot mass produce this pudding. However, despite the limited number we definitely would like to have you try this rare treat!

The secret to the deliciousness

Fresh raw ingredients: Using luxurious amounts of fresh eggs, milk, and cream, we make each pudding carefully by hand, one by one.
Additive-free: We do not use preservatives and the like. The naturally occurring sulfur in the steam acts as a preservative, so there is no need to add any. Jigoku-mushi: By "hell steaming" the custard in the extremely hot vapor, its softness is brought out all the more.

Yunohana for medicinal baths

Yunohana are made in the Myoban hot springs village from montmorillonite, a blue clay rich in deposits. Using a special technique, steam erupting from underground is allowed to permeate the clay. Yunohana separate from its surface, and these are harvested about one month later, becoming a 100% natural bathing powder. (This production method has been designated an important intangible folk culture asset by the Japanese government.)
